Quick & Easy Morning Oats

I can't be the only one who rushes around in the morning, wishing I'd actually gotten up when my alarm went off, or at least 10 minutes earlier than I actually did. While I'm getting better at this, my morning routine is still a bit of a work in progress.

By the time I get to breakfast (the last step in my AM routine), I'm usually down to the last few minutes, debating if I should just grab a piece of fruit to go along with my coffee. Whenever I do this though, I find that I end up hungry within the hour. Thankfully, my mom passed along her go-to oatmeal recipe that I really enjoy, and can easily make in under 10 minutes.

Quick & Easy Morning Oats

I know what you're thinking. You can just grab one of those pre-packaged bags of oats, pour in some water, and toss into the microwave for 2 minutes, and there you have it. Well, those aren't the oats I'm talking about here. I've never been able to eat the microwavable oatmeal because I can't get over the texture, but these homemade oats are heartier, and you can add as much or as little liquid that you'd like to get the perfect oatmeal.

So, are you ready for the recipe now? It's 1 cup of vanilla almond milk and 1/2 cup of rolled oats (you can also make it in larger quantities, just double the recipe). Now, you put the almond milk in a pot on the stove, and once it starts boiling, add in the oats. Turn the heat down low and let it simmer for about 5 minutes. That's it. That wasn't so hard now, was it?

I recommend that you use sweetened vanilla almond milk if you want them to be really flavourful (I also have a huge sweet tooth, which is really why I like them like this). But, if you want them to be a bit less sugary, use the unsweetened type of almond milk. To spice things up a bit, top the oats with a sprinkle of cinnamon and some nicely placed berries. Just kidding, you don't have to spend time putting your berries on display. Mine are normally just tossed in, but I wanted to make the oats look pretty for you guys. So here you have it. Quick and easy morning oats that should keep you going until lunch!

If I know that my morning is going to be too rushed to actually make breakfast, I will often make overnight oats, so I can just grab the jar and a spoon on my way out in the morning. Keep an eye out for my favourite overnight oats recipe, which I'll be posting soon. Hint: it involves maple syrup to sweeten things up (stereotypical Canadian here).

Do you have any other quick and easy breakfast foods that you rely upon to shorten your morning routine? I'd love to hear some ideas, so feel free to share them in the comments below.

Until next time,
