Simple Homemade Latte

When I want to switch up my typical black coffee in the morning, I will whip up a latte. While lattes seem like they would be too much of an added effort in the morning, I've worked on finding the quickest method to make this morning treat.

I decided to start making my own lattes when I discovered that buying them frequently at cafés can take a bit of a hit on your wallet and waistline. I still go to cafés when I'm craving a treat or want a special version I can’t make at home, but this recipe is ideal for indulging on a budget.

What you’ll need:

  • French press, espresso maker or another machine to make espresso

  • Milk frother

Recipe

  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup espresso or very strong coffee

  • 1.5 to 2 cups milk of choice (almond, soy, 2%, etc.)

  • Toppings such as cinnamon or caramel drizzle

Steps

  1. While making the espresso or strong coffee, heat up milk of choice

  2. Pour milk into a frother (can be manual pump or electric) or steam milk if you have an espresso machine

  3. Pour espresso or coffee into mug, followed by the steamed milk

  4. Add desired toppings, then enjoy with breakfast or on its own

If you want to add flavoured syrups, I recommend adding these to the mug before pouring in the espresso shot.

How do you prefer to drink your morning coffee? Are you into a simple black coffee or do you like a sugar kick early in the AM? I love either, as long as it’s coffee!
