A Cozy Evening at La Carnita

Every once in a while, I get a craving for Mexican food. A great solution to this craving? La Carnita in Toronto.

First of all, the service my friend Rachel and I experienced was great. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive. We also visited on a quiet evening during the week, so the vibe was relaxed and cozy.

Second, the food here is awesome and very filling! While I'm not typically a fan of spicy food, they have a toned-down version of nearly every menu option, which is a definite bonus.

To start with, we got the Mexican Street Corn and Tortilla Chips with Guacamole.

I'm already a big fan of corn on the cob, so I was excited for the Mexican Street Corn. The verdict? If you only get one thing from La Carnita, get this! The corn works in perfect harmony with the queso anejo and Mexican crema. The mess you will make eating this is definitely worth it!

Nachos and Guacamole | Tall Girl Meets World

We couldn't get tacos without getting some nachos and guacamole first. The nachos here are seasoned with ancho chili powder, so even if you eat them plain, they still have a little kick and flavour. Of course the guacamole was delicious and gone far too quickly.

Next up: tacos! We each decided on two different tacos. I went with the Crispy Cotija and In Cod We Trust tacos.

I could have definitely eaten more of the Crispy Cotija tacos, but next time I won’t try to be brave by going with the spicy option. I went with the regular spicy version, but since I don't eat spicy food regularly, I found it to be a bit hot. There is a milder version available for those of you who also don't manage spicy food well. However, the crispy cotija cheese and the pickled carrots made this taco a real treat to eat.

In Cod We Trust. The name of this taco is 10/10. I think it's pretty self-explanatory that this is a fish taco made with breaded cod. It's topped with pickled red cabbage, green apple and lime crema, which adds a refreshing taste and contrast to the breaded fish. This taco was a real winner for me!

If you're looking for a relaxing place to grab a delicious bite of Mexican cuisine to eat after work, La Carnita is an excellent choice! Also, if you're a Sweet Jesus fan, you can find their paletas here for a perfect treat to finish off your Taco Tuesday (or any other day of the week, really).
